The Possibility of Determining Osteoporosis by Analysing the Medical Images of the Cortical Bone
This paper proposes a method of bone structure analysis that could be used to determine if a person has osteoporosis by analysing the cortical bone on medical images. Osteoporosis is a bone disease that leads to an increased risk of fracture. This method automatically extracts the cortical bone form medical images and measures its thickness. The proposed method was tested on medical images of healthy people and people with osteoporosis, to see if it could extract the cortical bone from both patient groups and to analyse the cortical bone thickness measurements
Automatic Medical Image Analysis for Measuring Cortical Bone Porosity
Cortical bone porosity is caused by osteoporosis, which causes bones to become weak and brittle and more likely to break. In this paper a method of automatic measurement of cortical bone porosity is proposed. This method uses medical images that were acquired using conventional computed tomography. The proposed method works by finding and defining the cortical bone region of interest on a medical image and measuring the cortical bone porosity inside this region, it also calculates the average cortical thickness
Medicīnisko objektu virsmu modelēšana, izmantojot triangulācijas un maršējošo kubu algoritmu
Darbs apraksta divas metodes, ar kuru
palīdzību ir iespējams izveidot medicīnisko objektu trīsdimensiju
virsmu.
Medical Image Analysis to Determine the Effectiveness of Treating Osteoporosis
This paper proposes a method to determine the effectiveness of treating osteoporosis by analyzing medical images which were acquired using conventional computed tomography machines, which can be found in most hospitals. The method proposed in this paper should help doctors treating osteoporosis to determine whether their treatment plan is working so that they could adjust it and choose a better treatment plan.
Medical Image Analysis to Determine the Effectiveness of Osteoporosis Treatment
This paper proposes a method for determining the
effectiveness of osteoporosis treatment by analyzing medical
images. Osteoporosis is a bone disease that leads to an increased
risk of fracture. This method analyses bone density changes over
a time period, by extracting cortical and trabecular bones from
medical images and comparing their density on a medical image
taken at the beginning of treatment and after the time period
Trabecular Bone Segmentation by Using an Adaptive Contour
This paper proposes a method for extracting a
trabecular bone region from medical images of bones, which can
be later used for diagnosing patients suffering from osteoporosis.
This approach is fully automatic and does not require operator
input; it can be used on two types of bones: long bones and
vertebrae. The first step is segmenting the medical image, which
leaves only the cortical bone, then a contour is created inside the
cortical bone, which adapts to the edges of the cortical bone and
ignores the holes that could appear in the cortical bone, thus
extracting the trabecular bone that is located inside the cortical
bone
The Cortical and Trabecular Bone Extraction from Medical Images to Determine the Effectiveness of Treatment of Osteoporosis
Osteoporosis is a bone disease in which the amount of bone is decreased and the structural integrity of trabecular bone is impaired and cortical bone becomes more porous and thinner. This makes the bone weaker and more likely to fracture. This paper proposes a method to measure the effectiveness of treatment of osteoporosis by analyzing medical images. The proposed method measures the density changes in the cortical and the trabecular bones by analyzing medical images, which were acquired by computer tomography at different time intervals. The main advantage of the proposed method is that the cortical and the trabecular bone extraction algorithm is fully automatic and it can be used for further analysis of bone microstructure
Medical Image 3D Visualization by Vector Based Methods
This paper describes approaches and methods that are aimed to solve various medical image processing tasks, including extraction of region of interest, the extracted regions contour processing and the following 3D visualization of the extracted region. Two different approaches for control point acquisition and 3D model reconstruction using the points acquired from the region of interest are proposed. The proposed methods of 3D visualization use a vector-based surface model creation rather than raster-based systems to significantly improve computational efficiency and the quality of generated 3D models. The proposed methods were tested on the medical images of a brain acquired by computer tomography and proven to be applicable to different types of region of interest. The results can be used to provide practical improvements to the reliability of medical diagnostics
